More Magic

desember 14, 2008 at 10:34 pm | In Linn liker | 1 Comment

I saw the “new” Narnia film a couple of days ago (way overdue, I know!). I read all the books several times when I was younger. I loved them, I still love them, and I love the films. It’s the magic. I love magic! I think that’s why I’m a Christian. I like to believe in something more than just what you see right in front of you. I like the feeling you get when you realize it could actually be something more.

“You wouldn’t believe us if we told you, sir!”

“Try me!”

Christmas is also magic to me. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I love “that Chritmas feeling”. I would like to have more Christmas feelings and more magic all year around! We all need som magic! At least I do! :)

In the end, it’s all about believe!

NY non stop

desember 11, 2008 at 1:55 am | In Linn in Canada | 6 Comments

It feels like we did Everything!, but still there so much left to do. I can’t wait to go back in the summer time with HK. NY is a fantastic city!

Here is what you can manage in 4 days in NY:

Take the bus by night even though you have to stop and wait a long time at the border and in Albany. Remember to upload movies on you ipod! Arrive Friday morning, ignore the fact that you are tired, drink a lot of coffee instead. Visit Times Square, Grand Central Station, and Chrysler Building, then by luck find a Scandinavian restaurant/shop on Park avenue and laugh of the fact that Fiskesuppe and Pippi made it all across the ocean. Take the Staten Island ferry to watch the Statue of Liberty and the view of the city. Walk around Battery park and be glad you don’t have a job acting as the Statue of Liberty. Try to find the Flatiron building, but you should know it’s marked on the tourist map. You don’t have to locate it by yourself, as we tried to. Meet up with swedish friends at swedish “Fika” café and be invited to Willamsburg and Adventsmys on Sunday. See the MoMA for free in the evening, eat dinner at a weird Indian place and check out Rockefeller Center with the rest of the NY tourist crowd. Then try to locate a nice bar, but remember to ask the locals! Spend the evening in a crowded small bar in West Village, talk to a medicine student from Californina, who studies in Albany, but have a “I’m trying to be an actor in NY” friend, who works at the bar. Return to your dodgy hostel, which doors doesn’t open every time

The next day you walk through Central Park, visit a church marked and the Guggenheim museum before asking a local about a nice breakfast place. Have bagels and pancakes!!! Visit the Met, try to understand why people stand in line to get in to F.A.O. Schwartz toy store, visit Bloomingdales, and listen to the bad singing of the Salvation Army bellringing people. Make your way to the UN, and be there a day you actually can get a guided tour. Eat lunch before you take the metro to see City Hall, buildings you think are City Hall, or at least should be. Visit the Ground Zero, but miss the memorial museum and go to Century 21 shopping mall instead. Buy stillongs because you are getting cold and christmas presents. You should spend the evening bargaining with the chinese people in China Town. Remember to buy a “I love NY” t-shirt before you walk up to cosy Little Italy for dinner! Have dessert at the restaurant before you find a cosy little café and have another one. Spend some time at a pub with live music before returning to the hostel.

Sundays are perfect for French Toast breakfast and shopping at Victoria Secret. You should also take a walk in Central Park, watch kids iceskating and  the people who bother to stand in line to ride the horse carriages. Walk a while on 5th avenue even though there’s way to many people. Make a visit to Tiffany’s and wish you were rich. Take the Subway to West Village and Magnolia Bakery. Buy cupcakes and other cakes, and eat them with a Starbucks coffee. Walk around in the West Village, Soho and Noho; visit the shops you think look interesting. In the afternoon you take the Subway to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and buy bags and clothes in Vintage shops. Eat in a cosy Thai restaurant with excellent taste of food and music. Buy a julestjerne, which brakes in the wind, and make a visit to some swedish friends for an evening of gløgg and pepperkaker. Let the host and hostess take you on a freezing evening walk to the jewish block, before you warm up and finish your cake from Magnolia Bakery on the Subway, making your way back to the hostel.

Monday you eat French Toast for breakfast again, because they were so good. Your swedish friends have told you about the Ground Zero museum so you go back there. You take a walk on Wall Street to the East “Coast”, look at the Brooklyn Brigde, eat lunch for 2 dollars, and then you make your way to the Empire State building just in time to see the sun, sundown, and the evening view. Shop some more around Time Square, have a real burger for dinner; you’re in America after all, find another Magnolia Bakery and buy dessert for the bus. Take the bus back home by watching “The Holiday” on you ipod, eating your Magnolia cheesecake and again stopping in Albany and at the border. Try to get some sleep as well, and before you know it you are in Montreal, which now has real winter! :)

Realize that you have to go back to NY real soon! :)
